Will Fully Autonomous Cars Hit the Road This Year?

In his video message that was broadcast during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he foresees Level 5 cars, also known as self-driving vehicles, hitting the road before the end of 2020. “I remain confident that we will have the basic functionality for Level 5 autonomy complete this year,” he said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says a Level 5 car “do[es] all the driving in all circumstances” and the occupants in the vehicle would “never be involved in driving.” Mr. Musk said his company needs to make improvements to its software to make a vehicle fully autonomous. Currently, autonomous vehicles are at Level 2, meaning they have some control over the braking, steering and acceleration, but the driver must always pay attention to the road and maintain steering.

Some say it may be a while before a fully autonomous vehicle will be seen on the road. First, there needs to be better sensor technology; the current technology is not advanced enough to detect objects in bad weather or heavy traffic. Second, there is no one set industry standard for the use of algorithms in reading and detecting objects read by the sensors. Lastly, safety is also a big problem. Even the American Automobile Association has called driver-assisted technology “far from 100% reliable.”

If you are looking to purchase a new semi-autonomous vehicle, you might just consider selling or junking your old vehicle. If you want to work with a Long Island junk cars for cash company, contact the experts at Gershow Recycling. Call (631) 371-2031 or visit https://clunkersintocash.com/.
